Black malt gives roast aroma and taste and the Pale malt contributes a sweet biscuity note. Delicious cane sugar and caramel adds more sweetness.

Challenger hops give a fresh dry hop character and moderate bitterness and the Goldings adds a more aromatic and spicy note giving quite a complex beer.

At 7.5% abv this beer is very full bodied, sweet and warming.

The ‘shilling’ once denoted the strength of Scottish beers – the stronger the more expensive they were – and ‘90/-‘ indicates the style, ‘Heavy’, a strong, rich, malty, traditional strong ale. 90/- is sweet, dark, and has an aromatic intensity with layers of warming dark fruit, hints of caramel, and a malt-forward full body.
