2022 was the last of a recent string of drought years. And it was a sunny vintage yielding a small and beautiful crop to make wine from, Chuy imbuing the vintage with all his heart and soul.
The En Foule vineyard is on lush red, volcanic mountain soils imparting fine structure and mouth filling perfume.
Aromas of graphite, just picked juicy red and black plums give way to a generous yet brooding dark wine with soft, fine tannins and structure.
Always bottled unfined and unfiltered after nearly 2 years in barrel.

Before grapevines were planted at attention in straight lines, they were planted more haphazardly, closer together wherever there was space to plant vines and enable the mostly hand work needed to care for the vines. This way of planting a vineyard is known as En Foule in France, a traditional yet almost extinct way of the past.
When the indefatigable Chuy Ordaz showed me this parcel of Cabernet Sauvignon, En Foule came to mind.
Chuy planted and has been farming this vineyard for 30 years, just another gem in his pocket he brings out for show and tell once in a while.
