Jeb Dunnuck – “The flagship 2020 Domaine Alary L’Estevenas Cairanne is a blend of Grenache and Syrah that’s all from the lieu-dit La Font d’Estévenas, raised in used barrels. The Syrah really sings here, and it has a Côte Rôtie-like perfume of black raspberries, smoked game, white truffles, spring flowers, and pepper. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it offers a layered, seamless mouthfeel, plenty of building tannins, and a gorgeous finish. This complete, complex, incredibly impressive Cairanne will evolve for another decade.” (93 Pts)
John Gilman – “As I have mentioned before, the Domaine Alary L’Estevenas Cairanne Rouge from Denis Alary is an old vine bottling from the estate, with the vines averaging fifty-five years of age and the cépages being a mix of Syrah and Grenache, with the blend based primarily on the first of these two grapes. The bouquet on the 2020 version is outstanding, jumping from the glass in a mix of dark berries, pepper, hung game, a superb base of soil tones, a touch of black olive and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, ripe and complex, with a fine core, excellent mineral drive and grip, ripe, well-integrated tannins and a long, balanced and classy finish. This shows just a whisper of backend heat from this hot summer, but it is quite modest and the wine is going to age beautifully.” (92+ Pts)
