Domaine de Colette Régnié Vieilles Vignes 2023
Grape variety: Gamay noir
Soil: Pink granite
Average vine age: 70 years old. Made with grapes from the oldest vines on our estate, one particular plot is over 80 years old, using traditional Beaujolais methods where the bunches are kept whole throughout vinification;
Maturing in concrete vats for 8 months before bottling. In this way, we craft an aromatic wine with supple and silky tannins.
Tasting: Characteristic of Régnié’s terroir, this deep ruby hued cuvée can be enjoyed from its youth to get the most of its red fruit aromas. After 4 to 5 years cellaring however, these turn into jammy fruit notes.
The soils at Colette are worked organically in an effort to promote healthy and vigorous root systems. Only vegetable-based fertilizers are used. They shallow-plow between the vines during plant dormancy to force the roots down into the subsoil (and thus hopefully take on more of the terroir characteristics of each cru).
They limit vine treatments during the year and intervene only when completely necessary. A green harvest is performed to give more concentrated grapes. Harvest is by hand, and only healthy grape clusters are emptied into the tank.
