Château de Fontarèches Arrenaou 2022

A wine of character, from plots with low yields, with a dark ruby ​​color and aromas of plums and spices.

Arrenaou is the ancestral name for the powerful Alicante Bouschet variety, one of the handful of black varieties whose juice is naturally colored.

The trick with this beast of a grape is to coax all its inner sweetness out by means of a controlled, relatively short pressing. This takes nothing away from the inherent power and deep hue of the wine.

Fifty-year old vines and a healthy dollop of carbonically fermented Carignan do the rest of the trick.

The end-result is a densely constituted but velvety wine, with a proper lashing of tannin and lovely berry fruit.
