VINEYARDS: ‘Croix Violette’ is a small, southeast-facing plot surrounded by a fragmented stone wall, neighboring an active cloister (the Violet Cross) in the village of Brochon, next to Gevrey-Chambertin. A third of the vineyard is planted to vines some 90 years old; average vine age, 50 years. Soils mix clay and limestone with gravelly subsoils. Farmed organically.

AGE OF VINES: 50 years, on average

WINEMAKING: Hand-harvested. Destemmed. Fermented on indigenous yeasts in tank. Aged in older French oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered.

TASTING IMPRESSIONS: Aromas of violets, crushed stones, black raspberries. Mineral, suave; flavors of red berries, ripe red plums.
