French-style Country Ale

Relict is one of the first beers we ever brewed at heirloom. We’ve always loved the French Biere de Garde tradition and think it’s one of the best platforms for showcasing high quality ingredients.

We start with Montana-grown, heirloom barley and boil it over an afternoon. We judiciously add some noble hops for floral nuance. Then we ferment once in the tank with our kolsch yeast, and ferment a second time in the kegs and cans for just the right amount of carbonation to balance the unique maltiness provided by a long boil.

Relict is a labor of love meant to mimic the profiles of French beer from the late 19th century and early 20th century. Relict is a beer that evolves as we chase inspiration from classic and preserved Bière de Garde portraits that have largely become unavailable in our crowded beer market. Our production of this beer is labor intensive and seriously traditional in nature in hopes that it rouses fascination, wonder, and connection.

Bière de Garde is widely considered to be one of the most food friendly and food capable styles of beer.

We brew small batch beers that move slowly to completion. We have student loans, car payments, and overdue library books. We look to make things that are refreshing, simple, approachable, and affordable. We want you to stay a while and talk to strangers. Meet new friends and play old records.
