Johan Farmlands was made to emphasize the fact that we are farmers first. I farm 76 acres of grapes at Johan and we sell 60% of the fruit to 22 different wineries.
Early spring, they select the barrels that we feel are the most approachable earlier, with the focus of making a wine that is vibrant and juicy, with a nice tannin structure and balance.

Vineyard: Johan Vineyards is one of five bonded wineries within the newly established Van Duzer Corridor AVA. The unique growing conditions within our viticultural area yield wine grapes with a compelling expression of Oregon’s sense of place. Basalt soils with Missoula flood deposits as topsoil.
Vinification: The grapes were hand picked and fermented in small batches using only native yeast – for both primary and malolactic fermentation. Some whole cluster but mostly destemmed. During primary fermentation our cap management is gentle, just enough to wet the cap and distribute even temperatures throughout the tank. Fermented and aged in used barrel for 7 months. Bottled unfined/unfiltered with a very small (25ppm) addition of So2 8 weeks before bottling.
