Living Häus Kathy
Westwood Farms has partnered with Living Häus Beer Co. and Pizza Port Brewing Co. to release “Kathy,” a 6.2% ABV India Red Ale brewed with Indie Hops Strata® hops grown at Westwood Farms.
The beer is named in honor of Kathy Coleman, a beloved mother and grandmother in the Coleman family, who played an important role in shaping the family behind Westwood Farms.
“Kathy” opens with notes of orange peel and peach skins, followed by a jammy marmalade character and a finish of toffee and baker’s chocolate. The beer features Strata® and Centennial hops grown for Indie Hops and Mosaic hops grown for Yakima Chief Hops, all at Westwood Farms.
The collaboration was inspired by a current Pizza Port recipe and reflects a shared connection between the three partners, bringing together hop growing, brewing, and long-standing relationships within the craft beer community all along the West Coast. The timing of the collab was ideal for entry into the Oregon Beer Awards, scheduled for April 2.
“My grandma Kathy helped shape our family in a lot of quiet ways. She even helped name Westwood Farms,” said Annie Coleman of Westwood Farms. “Naming this beer after her felt like a simple way to honor her lasting influence on our family and the farms, while also celebrating the people behind the hops and the beer. She loved to laugh and bring people together, especially while supporting her grandkids. She loved to travel and really embraced life, whether that meant supporting OSU and Western Oregon University, enjoying a nice glass of red wine, telling stories, or spending time with the people she loved most.”
