Lost Cause DBBA Häxa

The last of Häxa, and perhaps the best of Häxa. We took one of the first batches of Häxa and filled a few freshly dumped bourbon barrels with the delicious liquid. Then about a year in, we decided the boldness of the mead was more than a single bourbon barrel aging could compete with. But a second bourbon barrel aging? Now we’re talking. So we transferred them to a new batch of freshly dumped bourbon barrels for 7+ months to see what would happen.

The result is everything great you’d hope for. Dark fruit and rich raspberry mingle with those unmistakable caramel, wood and nutmeg notes from the bourbon. A vanilla backbone keeps the entire sip luscious and silky smooth even at 16% abv. There is still a tart finish from the black currants, but it’s a smoother and longer finish than the regular Häxa. This is a mead that demands time to unpack and wrap your head around. You know, our kind of mead.
