Lost Cause Meadery Sacrosanto
This mead has been three years in the making. A long distance collab with our friend Adam Crockett (of Upper Reach Meadery), this project was conceived at the start of the pandemic as a way for each of us to make a deconstructed Vin Santo mead. Our goal was to replicate one of Italy’s most famous dessert wines using the ingredients often found in the tasting notes of Vin Santo: apricot, caramel, hazelnut, dried fruit and floral honey.
We started by cofermenting Muscat grapes, figs, apricots and both Western Buckwheat & Orange blossom honeys. Then we aged it on toasted hazelnuts and raisins to recreate those wonderful oxidative notes found in Vin Santo. We let the mead age gracefully for another year until it all came together. The result is a deliciously decadent mead that is very easy to fall in love with. Rich, floral and ripe tropical fruit notes mix with the darker notes of toasted nuts, dried figs and raisins.
We’re not Vin Santo experts by any means, but we think we did a pretty damn good job with this one.
