Bodegas Lustau East India Solera Sherry
80% Palomino + 20% Pedro Ximénez
Each wine (Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez) is matured, separately in its own solera for 12 years. Once blended together, the resulting sherry is returned to a 45-cask solera for a further 3 years aging. Its aging process recreates that of the wines which crossed the oceans in the 17th century voyages.
Dark mahogany in color with green-amber edge. It offers vibrant notes of maple syrup, brown sugar, shoe polish, raisin, all very well integrated. On the palate it is smooth and rich at the beginning, full of prune and burned oranges peel flavors. Provocative spicy notes appear just before its nuttiness and terrific acidity cuts through the sweetness. With a truly unforgettable finish.
Serve at 50 – 54 ºF. This wine is a perfect companion to light desserts, creamy cheeses or foie gras. Try it also on the rocks with a slice of orange.
Wine Enthusiast – “This is a ripe, honeyed style of Sherry with deep brown sugar and cinnamon aromas. Its solid palate is under control and not syrupy, tapering into brown sugar and fig flavors. Chocolate and fig notes linger on the long finish.” (92 Pts)
Wine & Spirits – “This is a selection from botas of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez raised separately and then blended to age for three years in solera. The result puts the sweetness of the PX in front, with flavors of plum jam and tobacco. The salinity of the Oloroso brings freshness and fine minerality that play softly in the background.” (92 Pts)
