Podalirio owes its name to a species of butterfly that is frequently seen during the summer.
A fresh and intelligent Merlot, somewhat unusual (unusual, special) yet classically smooth and easy to drink. The tannins are wonderfully lively and dense, firmly supported by the weight of sweet, dense, and ripe dark fruit, creating structure and balance. The well-taut acidity contributes a sense of lightness and poise.
An excellent pairing with meats, roasted vegetables, and dishes featuring sweet spices.

Querceto di Castellina Podalirio 2021
“Iphiclides Podalirio” is the scientific name for the “Scarce Swallowtail” butterfly. This beautiful, pale yellow and dark black winged butterfly is found throughout the Querceto estate.
Originally this wine label had been a blend of Merlot and Sangiovese. Since 2005 it has been 100% Merlot. The Merlot vines in the Belvedere and Campolungo vineyards express the terroir and the potential and purity of the variety.
