TerraNoble CA1 Andes Carménère 2020
COMPOSITION: 100% Carmenere
DENOMINATION OF ORIGIN: Colchagua Valley ‘Andes’, Los Lingues.
SOIL: The Los Lingues vineyard is located in the northern sector of the valley, at the feet of the Andes Mountains. Its soils are of colluvial origin, formed by very old terraces. They are of medium depth and with a high content of organic matter. The soil’s first profile varies from a loamy to a clay-silt-loam texture, with angular stones below ground. Height of the vineyards: 370 masl.
AGING: 54% of the wine was aged in untoasted foudres, and 46% in new and previously used 300-lt barrels for 16 months.
AGING IN THE BOTTLE: At least 9 months before being released to the markets.
TASTING NOTES: The wine shows a fruit-forward, fresh and elegant profile. It unfolds intense aromas of fresh and ripe red fruits, intertwined with herbal notes. The aging in wood was used for micro-oxygenation and structure, as well as to enhance the fruit expression and add complexity.
It feels round and unctuous on the palate, with a very soft texture that comes from its ripe and silky tannins and its aging in wood. It offers a long and fruity ending and good persistence, maintaining an outstanding freshness and volume.
ANNUAL PRODUCTION: 1,130 cases
Tim Akin – “Sourced, as it always is, from Los Lingues in the foothills of the Andes, the 2020 TerraNoble CA1 Andes Carménère shows some of the heat of the 2020 vintage but manages to retain the underlying freshness of the terroir. Aged in foudres and 42% new oak barrels, it has classic graphite and green herb aromas, good grip and minerality and cassis and red cherry fruit.” (94 Pts)
Vinous – “The 2020 TerraNoble CA1 Andes Carménère from Los Lingues, Colchagua, was aged for 16 months in 46% new, second and third-use 300-liter barrels, and 54% in untoasted foudres. A dark garnet red in color. The liqueur-like nose offers ripe blackcurrant and blackberry notes over a layer of ash and hints of chutney, oak and orange zest. Broad and grippy, it’s compact in the mouth with measured alcoholic energy, and a lingering, ripe fruit finish.” (91 Pts)
James Suckling – “A medium-bodied red with spiced cherries, red berries and bell peppers on the nose. Round tannins with a spicy edge and a flavorful finish.” (91 Pts)
