Soil Type: granite Xabre
Vineyard Age: 35 years
Varieties: Albariño 100%
Zarate Albariño is a fresh, balanced and elegant wine, in which the primary aromas of the Albariño variety stand out. In the mouth it shows a vibrant acidity and on the nose fruity notes and a mineral background.
We take care of the vineyard with a viticulture that is respectful with the environment. Since 1994 all our plots are in No-Tillage with permanent natural cover and herbicides are not used, which increases the biodiversity of the flora. In the 2006 campaign we obtained the certification for our Integrated Production harvest, this cultivation system aims to produce a quality harvest, eliminate insecticides and acaricides, reducing the use of phytosanitary products, safeguarding the viticultural heritage and protecting the environment.
The harvest is manual and a selection of grapes is made on the plot. The grapes are destemmed and subjected to a gentle pressing obtaining a low must yield. After a slight settling, they ferment spontaneously in a steel tank and remain on fine lees for 3 months.
Decanter – “Textbook Albarino grown on the traditional parral canopy over decayed granite soil. Vines are 35 years old and tend more to fresh minerality in character than simple fruit. This is the easiest of Eulogio Pomares’ white wines to track down, but do also seek ou Balado, El Palomar and Tras da Vina if you can. Drink 2020-2026.” (93 Pts)
Wine Advocate – “The eponymous 2019 Zárate is their entry-level Albariño, a vintage with structure and acidity, still very young, a powerful vintage with more of everything and probably a long-distance runner. It’s varietal and clean, characterful, powerful and with a long, tasty finish, vibrant and almost salty.” (92 Pts)
