OLD HILL RANCH
The “Ancient Field Blend” is from a 12 acre block of vines that were planted in 1885. The vineyard is a mosaic of over two dozen grape varieties — primarily Zinfandel, but also Grenache, Alicante Bouchet, Petite Sirah, Mourvedre, Syrah, Carignane, and Tempranillo, to name a few. The grapes are co-fermented together. Comes from original vines planted in the 1880’s. Gnarly head pruned bush vines. Dry Farmed. Historic twelve acres, thirty identified varieties, one wine.
Wine Spectator – “Deeply structured and powerfully built, yet agile, with expressive blueberry and blackberry flavors accented by tar, cracked pepper and dark Asian spice notes that build richness toward polished tannins. Zinfandel, Grenache, Alicante Bouschet, Petite Sirah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2025. 430 cases made.” (94 Pts)
