Winemaker’s Notes

My mother created this wine and it tells of the place from which it comes with pride. The medal bearing the face of Diocletian stands out on the label. Compared to other wines of that era, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo was priced highly by this emperor. The grapes come from the oldest vineyards of the winery where the tendone method is used. The grapes are destemmed and the pressing starts off the rack-and-return process in stainless steel vats. This is followed by pumpover and fermentation. The wine then ages in stainless steel vats, the aging process continues once the wine is transferred to 20 hl barrels and barriques for about one more year.

Notes: Deep ruby red color, it presents red fruits and berries, morello cherry, blackberry, and plum flavor. Smooth in the mouth, warm gentle tannins in good balance with the alcohol. Typical licorice aftertaste.

Best served at 18-20°C, this superb Montepulciano d’Abruzzo will perfectly match red roasted meat, lamb chops, prosciutto and salami, parmigiano and every matured cheese. It goes very well with pasta dishes and risotto.
