100% Syrah. Organically farmed. Granite terroir. Manual harvest, destemmed, native yeast fermentation, with daily pumpovers for three weeks. Malolactic fermentation in barrels. Elevage: 12 months in new (1/3) and used barrels (2/3). Average production: 1,000 bottles/year.
Aurélien Chatagnier created his own domaine in 2002, when he was just in his early 20s, piecing together his vineyards parcel by parcel over the next decade. The vineyards at the domaine are predominantly granite, and very steep. The house style leans towards a lean, pure style of winemaking, and shows the reason why some of the best producers in the area decided to pass the torch over to Aurelien as one of the best young winemakers in the region.
100% destemmed. Natural yeast fermentation in fiberglass tanks. 3 pumpovers per day. Maceration à chaud at 30-32ºC
Barrels (1/3 new) for 12-15 months
The Cornas grapes come from a friend of Aurélien’s in Cornas, who agrees to swap some of his Cornas grapes for Aurélien’s Condrieu grapes.
Wine Advocate – “Looking at the 2014s, these were all outstanding wines that showed the more upfront, moderately concentrated style of the vintage. The 2014 Cornas offers fresh, focused notes of plums, olives, rare steak and bouquet garni in a medium-bodied, ripe, seamless style. Drink it over the coming decade. Drink 2016-2026.” (91 Pts)
